Meeting Minutes

10/3/07

1. Group discussed the prospect of designing a school. Three members of the group are from a different country, and are unfamiliar with United States school systems. After discussing the financial, federal, state, legal, and bureaucratic complexities, we have decided to design an after school program.

2. Each group member then had a chance to introduce a theme for our project. After listening to all ideas, we decided on an after school program that incorporates homework help, sports, and the fine arts. We see a lack of physical education and fine arts in today's schools due to restrictions from NCLB. This program would bring out the creativity and fun for each student, as well as extra support for homework.

3. Our individual resposibilities are as follows, but are not necessarily individual as we are working collaboratively:

YingYing: mission statement and philosophy

Sharon: curriculum of fine arts program

Marco: curriculum of sports program

Jonny: staff/board/organizational chart

Mindy: budget/business plan

Lisa: number of students/location and plan for the building

All members are responsible for keeping a record of the following: bibliographic entries, websites consulted, and people formally interviewed.

We plan to have a rough draft of each component by October 17th.

10-10-07

Sharon- Let’s revisit the mid-term assignment. Basically, read your assigned chapters and write some notes on a paper (not need to be typed). Bring for next week.

Lisa- We may actually agree with our notes, so we can compare.

Mindy will do the group discussion for next week’s session.

Lisa will e-mail the instructor about week 7 and let us know.

Ying-Ying  will do the group discussion for week 5.

Remember to bring a rough draft of assigned topic for our group project to week 5.

For week 6, we will not meet (Halloween).  But,  we can work on EPG and response paper #2.

Sharon demonstrated templates of IWEB.

Mindy also showed us some ideas about photos and videos.

We all should think how our project will look, and begin to visualize it.

We decided to use stock photos for our project.
